In 1989 Malice Domestic was established; celebrating the writers whose works fall into the genre of a traditional mystery, typified by the works of Agatha Christie. The Agathas are presented annually to American writers for the previous year’s published work. To qualify the book cannot contain any gratuitous violence, explicit sexual scenes or excessive gore. Police officers and private detectives may be featured, the hard-boiled types don’t qualify.
